Yevano Oruvan - Not a stranger

I should have started to write about this topic a week before. I couldn't write it and may be this is the day I was awaiting to pen down about our society. All my frustration, anger, etc were visualized in this film. As a movie, it may have many flaws. But, in reality it made people like me to realize why we need humanity and what we need for this society. This post is not entirely about the movie. The movie is just a part of my view.

Rajaram and myself will never forget this day, 22/12/07. This is the day, I saw the movie "Yevano Oruvan", directed by Nishikanth Kamat, remake from Marathi movie Dombivili Fast. I honestly salute to the director and the dialogue write R.Madhavan. Such a bold movie. This movie is inspired from "Falling down", in
1993 starring Michael Douglas.

The story is all about a middle class man who has a routine life. Lives in a suburb and travels in train to his office. He is loyal to all and sticks to all moral values and policies. His anger is why does this society do not provide him the necessary things which he actually deserves. His anger gives him a reply and people takes him as a super hero.
On a punitive spree, he begins beating up the wrongdoer with a bat and soon graduates to the knife and gun.Lets leave all this now. What made me to write about this movie? The climax made me. The director says simply, whatever happens in this world, the people who do not feel ashamed and bad are just a creature with no back bone. They continue the work what ever happens in this world. Camera goes to rat, which is dead, covered with flies. I would have appreciated our director if he had shown a shit instead of a dead rat with flies. And using R.Madhavan's super hero image, all the media showed him on their respective channels, made money. A man is dead, who questioned why he was not provided things which he deserve. We people make business of that! Okie. Lets come out of the movie. Lets talk about reality.

The real hero's are propagated in a wrong way because they tear the mask which we wear. That is the damn reason the society hates those heroes.Thats how we people are living our life!
Some people rise up in protest at the injustices that happen around them, while others just curse their fate and move on. We all live against our moral values. And we all live fine. People who likes to live with moral values are cornered and make them not to come up in life. Why does this world became like this? What is the root cause of this? None of us have enough guts to speak about the injustices that happens in front of our eyes? When someone decides to do something about it, it backfires because society isn't ready to tame the Frankenstein's monster. Is this because of the life standards change? or sophistications came into our life? Why does this discrimination occur? What made capitalism to make its strong foundation in the society?

I am ashamed to lead a life were we live against all the rules. It is the middle class mentality of blaming others but lacking guts to take on an issue. On every super hero's death, there opens a new view of rotten society.
How many times we have wanted to pick up a stick and teach a lesson to the telephone lineman, who keeps asking for money to do the work he is paid to do? And the corporation garbage collectors, the auto rickshaw drivers, the government officer who demanded money to issue a death certificate, and many such people. But the only difference is that we could control our anger, and channelize our energies into adopting a non-violent path. Yes, picking up a stick would definitely have provided me instant gratification, but then we attach equal importance to the means as well as the ends. I could feel the the real scenario in today’s dog-eat-dog world with a degenerating society. Can an ordinary man fight the deep-rooted ills of society single-handedly? Pointing out wrong-doings is not just enough, but it takes more than an individual to question them.

Reacting like the hero does is out of the realm of possibility.
I am not a super hero. But I can make super heroes. I can't change this world. I can make it a better place to live for the next generation. The movie affected me on a personal level because I could identify with the protagonist’s angst. But more than this, it set me off thinking: the incidents portrayed could happen to anyone. You, me, anyone. I do not have answers for this, but I can make better way for the future. My blood is still boiling...

Who am I?

I am some one who is not so special to be introduced. I never believe in co-incidence and it happened to me now! That is the reason of this new blog. I would like to write up some of the common things here which we all face day to day life.
